I don’t have enough time to practice outside class
” “I’m always very tired from work” “I have too much to do” These are some of the most frequent problems that many English learners face. While there’s not a quick and easy solution for improving your English skills, there are some small changes you can make to your daily routine so practicing becomes a little easier. But before, remember that the more you practice the better your skills will be; so try to do it as much as you can.
First, try to make English part of your morning routine. Instead of scrolling down social media, try reading a short English news article, listening to a podcast while getting ready or writing a short description of what you want your day to be. If your morning routine is already packed, you should try practicing during your commuting time. Listen to audio-books or podcasts on your way to work.
You can also dedicate part of your lunch break to practice. Watch a short English video, read an article or have a brief conversation with someone who speaks English. It is understandable that after work hours you don’t have a lot of energy to invest in learning. However, try to end your day with a bit of English. Watch a TV show or movie. It’s also a good idea to write about your day or write new words or phrases that you might have learned that day.
Keep in mind that you don’t need to have a book or a notebook in front of you to practice. Take advantage of small moments along your day like waiting in line, taking a short break at work or even cooking to review vocabulary, practice speaking or listen to English content. You only need to be motivated to improve and use small opportunities to develop your English skills.
